Well, the evening run of the GFS is finishing up. The NAM is in the house. The other models from around the world endorse the cold trend. NWS ofices across the Plains and Southeast and starting to worry about the coming Arctic outbreak.
Here is a quick rundown of late night thoughts. James will have a fresh look around daybreak.
Hard freeze tonight. Heading toward an overnight low around 19 on average.
Sunny and cold tomorrow. High 45. Increasing clods tomorow night into Tuesday. 28 tomorrow night. Maybe a sprinkle or two on Tuesday.
Wednesday features more clouds with a screaming southern branch of the jet stream above us. Nice little low pressure forms to our southwest by Wednesday afternoon. Rain spreads into the area Wednesday night, It may be cold enough for a wintry mix over North Alabama. The main area of concern will be north of US-278, although all of North and Central Alabama will want to monitor the situation.
Expect a cold rain on Thursday. The high may not make 40.
Friday will see a strong cold front barrelling our way. It may be accompanied by light rain changing over to light snow overnight. Temperatures will fall quickly behind the front and be below freezing Saturday morning. Readings do not get above freezing on Saturday. Very cold Saturday night with teens possible.
Sunday cold, but dry. Highs in the 30s. Lower 20s Sunday night.
We don’t get much above freezing Monday. Single digits possible Monday night. Some moderation by Tuesday.
With the cold temperatures, we will have to watch for the development of any storm systems. The evening GFS is clear of any major developments once the cold air is entrenched. That is good news. (Sorry snow fans…) But things will chnage lots between now and then.
