The Sunday edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below, and on iTunes:
It’s going to be gray and wet across Central Alabama today. Looks like the rain will be ending for a while this morning, but another impulse in the upper air flow will squeeze out a bit more moisture later this afternoon and tonight. Temperatures will be getting colder tonight, so there is a possibility of flurries especially across the Tennessee Valley and into the higher elevations of Northeast Alabama. Temperatures will not be changing much today with morning values in the lower and mid 50s. I don’t expect any sunshine so we could see the temperature rise a couple of degrees but not much.
Tuesday the weather will be improving but it will be cold. Looks like the chance of flurries will be confined primarily to Northeast Alabama. Temperatures will struggle into the 40s so it will be a brisk day. Clouds are expected to linger, however, we could see some clearing from the west during the latter part of the daylight hours.
Wednesday an upper level ridge will build across the Southeast along with a surface high. Temperatures will climb back toward seasonal values with lots of sunshine. And the dry weather stays with us on Thursday, but a new storm system will be forming across the southern Rockies which will bring clouds and increased rain chances on Friday. I think Friday will be dry until later in the day and into the evening.
Instability could be enough with this system for a few thunderstorms. Looks like the rain should be exiting Central Alabama during midday on Saturday. However, another wrap around situation will keep the skies cloudy on Sunday with another shot at some flurries across Tennessee and extreme northern Alabama. And it looks like the New Year will begin dry but brisk with another shot of cold air for Central Alabama.
Trolling out into voodoo land, nothing really extreme stands out, but the weather pattern remains progressive with a continuation of a series of storms moving across the US. This means two or three days of good weather with a day or two of clouds and rain. And the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) remains weakly positive indicating no extreme cold or heat.
I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas from all of us in the Weather Team at ABC 3340. We appreciate you tuning into the Blog and our video posts, and we all look forward to keeping you informed about the weather as we enter the New Year. God bless.
