Just a note to all of you folks that do storm spotting. On January 4th, 2010, at 6:01 pm, the criterion used for severe thunderstorm warnings will change from 3/4 inch diameter – penny size – or larger hail to 1 inch – quarter size – diameter or larger.

No change is being made to the severe thunderstorm warning criterion of wind gusts equal to or in excess of 58 miles per hour.

And a reminder – try to report hail size to something well known such as coins. Here is an guide from the National Weather Service to help in reporting hail.
