The latest edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below and on iTunes.

Looks like the upper ridge is getting a firmer grip on our weather, so I expect to see most locations top out close to 90 today. With the rather moist air mass, isolated afternoon storms forming in the late morning and early afternoon are possible, but I think most people will stay dry.

There really is not much change to our weather for the next seven days. A weak cold front should drop into the Southeast on Sunday which will be the main focus for storms. Some of those could be severe as they develop in the heat of the day. Damaging wind and hail are possible though I would not expect any really large hail since the air is just plain hot.

Next week looks like a continuation of a summer-ish pattern. The westerlies are over the northern tier of the US while we remain generally under a ridge. Traveling disturbances flatten the ridge a bit from time to time but then it bounces back. So I think we can expect a continuation of warm, humid weather with more isolated showers possible each day.

Interesting that Tropical Depression Alma is forecast to move across Central America, but the National Hurricane Center stops short of moving it into the Atlantic Basin, specifically the Southwest Gulf of Mexico. And the GFS continues to show something, but out on the edge of voodoo country, so the two systems do not seem to be linked. I’m about to conclude that the GFS is up to its old tricks, and completely discount whatever it suggests for the tropics. And about the time I do that, it will nail one!!!

I hope you have a great Friday. I’ll be participating in Music on Main in Columbiana this evening, so if you want some good food and free music, come on out and join us on Main Street in the county seat of Shelby County. I expect to have the next Weather Xrtreme Video posted by 7:30 or so tomorrow morning. God bless.
