It sure looks likely that Central Alabama will see another hot and humid day on this Father’s Day that will closely resemble Friday and Saturday. With the upper ridge anchored north-south along the Mississippi River today, we’ll once again see a few cumulus clouds but almost no chance of showers. The combination of the strong ridge plus dry air aloft should suppress any chance of showers.

The upper ridge slowly begins sliding west later today and Monday but it will not fully relinquish it’s grip on Alabama until at least Wednesday. By Thursday and Friday we’ll see better chances for isolated to scattered storms, and those chances will continue into the weekend. The heat should abate a tad by the end of the week with highs dropping about 3 to 6 degrees or so. Unfortunately, the convective nature of the rain chances means that most folks will remain dry – just a few lucky ones getting a shower.

The 06Z GFS continued to show a weak disturbance moving northward across the Gulf of Mexico in about a week. This edges into voodoo country, so I’m not yet putting a lot of faith in the solution. There is some consistency, so it bears watching. Further across the land of voodoo, not a great deal of change with the ridge maintaining a summer-ish pattern for us.

James Spann should be back at the controls Monday morning with the next edition of the Weather Xtreme Video. I hope that everyone has a great Father’s Day. I’m looking forward to an iChat with my daughter in Chicago even though she was here about a week ago. Those iChats are always great.

And I’m saying a prayer of gratefulness and thanksgiving for my friends, Crystal and Brian Casey. Their son, Fisher, came nearly 7 weeks prematurely, but mother and baby are doing fine. Probably the biggest problem for them right now is the fact that the baby has to remain in the hospital for several weeks so they can be sure no medical issues crop up for the youngster who weighed in around 3 pounds and 10 ounces. I know that Brian and Crystal will enjoy bringing Fisher home. What a Father’s Day for Brian! Poor Crystal has to wait nearly a year for her first Mother’s Day. Godspeed and enjoy the day and life!!
