The NWS in Birmingham has issued an areal flood advisory for Marion and Winston Counties for the heavy storms that are over the northern parts of both counties. These storms produced 3-4 inches of rain across southern Franklin and southern Lawrence Counties as they pushed slowly southward. This will produce localized flooding. Be aware if you if live in a poor drainage area or must be out driving in the areas where heavy rain is falling.
Elsewhere, we have a tornado warning for Itawamba and Monroe Counties in Northeast Mississippi. This storm will pass into southwestern Marion County shortly, passing near or south of Hamilton. The NWS in Birmingham has shown great restraint in issuing warnings tonight. They have not seen circulations at the lowest level of the atmosphere and think that the lifted condensation levels are a little high for tornadoes. If they see things change for any of the storms, they will issue warnings.
The NWS Huntsville maintains severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of Cullman, Morgan and Marshall counties.
Everything is pushing slowly east southeast.
