An outflow boundary traveling west through Jefferson and Shelby Counties triggered a heavy shower near and just west of the Birmingham Airport. It dumped very heavy rain on the airport and sent ramp crews for some airlines for cover when it grew enough to cause lightning.

Tops rose to over 30,000 feet in a short time. It was weakening as it moved slowly northeast toward East Lake and Roebuck.

0.16 inches of rain fell in just seven minutes and moderate rain was continuing as of the report, which was at 5 p.m.
