OK, I sound like a game show host. Precipitation is really starting to increase on radar over Alabama now, and it is also starting to reach the ground, even here in Trussville, where we have sleet falling.
Take a look at the BMX sounding from 00 UTC…cold and dry at low-levels. The wet bulb temperature is below freezing up to about 900 mb, so sleet may be the main precipitation type for a while, before warmer air comes in aloft later tonight, changing it to freezing rain.
Surface wet bulb temperatures are around 30 degrees, and with sleet falling, then melting and evaporating at first, both of which use up heat, expect temperatures to slowly fall toward 32 over the next 2 or 3 hours.
Travel problems are possible as we go into the night, especially at higher elevations and on any bridges and overpasses.
