…..Plus a few notes from other far-flung locations…
Not a great deal going on in Alabama. Just before noon scattered light rain was across nearly the north half of Alabama. It was spreading east and ENE. It is part of a fairly narrow zone of light rain that extends back into east Texas.
The thermometers across Alabama were showing ,mostly 40s but there were some 60s near the coast.
A FEW NON ALABAMA NOTES
* A lot of the snow in the Smoky Mountain National Park has melted–especially down where most of the people are. Only one inch still on the ground in Cades Cove and at the park headquarters at Gatlinburg. However, up atop Mt. Leconte, there is still 20 inches.
* Three cities that got more than two inches of rain in the last 24 hours: Orlando, Tampa and Norfolk.
* Coldest in the Lower 48 states this morning, 23 below at Flag Island, Minn., and (warmest) (hottest) yesterday 90 at Riverside and Chatsworth, Calif. That is the average high in early July in Birmingham!
* Coldest in Alaska this morning, 40 below at Bettles.
PICK CITY FOR WHERE YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO BE TODAY
* Again, it is good ole Deadhorse, Alaska where it was 17 below within the last hour, visibility was only 1/4 mile in blowing snow, wind west, gusts to 39 mph and the wind chill was 49 below zero.
