Holy Ridge, Batman, will this heat and dry weather ever end? Well, Robin, not in the immediate future! Unfortunately for Central Alabama, the ridge is going to remain strong through about Wednesday as it meanders a bit west but then builds back eastward. At that time, though, we begin to see some hope for an enhancement to our shower chances as some weakness develops in the stubborn ridge.

So it appears pretty slim for much in the way of rain chances through Wednesday with the need to mention isolated showers each afternoon simply due to the potential for showers to develop in the heat of the afternoon. Like yesterday, most showers are likely to be east and south of Central Alabama.

The ridge does begin to show signs of breaking down on Wednesday with that trend continuing into next weekend. Don’t look for spectacular rain chances, but we should improve from isolated to scattered afternoon showers. The trend of breaking down the ridge continues into voodoo country with some potential for the ridge to be replaced by a trough at the end of the forecast period – around the 20th of June. This gives us some hope but it is a long way out and there is not a great deal of skill in the long range. But we can hope.

SPC has outlooked an area across the Southern Appalachians from St. Louis across Kentucky and Tennessee into the Carolinas for the possibility of severe thunderstorms today. While somewhat iffy, the main severe weather threat is likely to be damaging wind.

The Hurricane Center is still watching the area of cloudiness in the Central Caribbean which remains nearly stationary. Not much change has occurred in the cloudiness and thunderstorms, and any development is likely to be slow to occur.
