THE HEAT IS ON: Time to celebrate America this weekend with hot summer days with a decent amount of hazy sunshine some some risk of a pop-up, “splash and dash” storm in a few spots during the heat of the day. Basically standard summertime weather through Monday with highs in the mid 90s. The chance of any one spot getting wet tomorrow is about one in eight, with slight better odds Sunday and Monday.

We do note we actually a few isolated storms on radar this afternoon over Coosa and Tallapoosa Counties… those are drifting to the southwest and will fade away soon. There is actually a severe thunderstorm warning for Lee County in East Alabama at mid-afternoon for a storm complex near the Georgia border.

REST OF NEXT WEEK: The heat ridge weakens a bit Tuesday through Friday of next week, so scattered showers and storms should be a little more numerous, and we might have an MCS or two coming at us from the northwest. Highs will be in the low to mid 90s.

TROPICS: Very quiet conditions across the vast Atlantic basin this afternoon and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.

BEACH WEATHER: It is a big weekend for the Gulf Coast, and the weather looks just about like how you would expect it! Highs will be in the low 90s on the beaches of Alabama and Northwest Florida; it may get hotter inland (mid 90s). There is very little chance of rain on the immediate coast, but even if you do get a shower it will not last very long. In other words, mostly sunny, hot and humid with only a small chance of a passing shower. Water temperatures are in the upper 80s.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
