The latest edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below and via iTunes.

Attention is now fading on Edouard as it came ashore near the Louisiana/Texas border this morning, a bit ahead of the projections made yesterday. So far conditions along the Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas coast have been rainy with winds around tropical storm force with some gusts to near 45 mph.

All of the rising motion in the storm means there must be some sinking motion elsewhere and we in Central Alabama are the beneficiaries of the sinking air. This means hot weather plus no showers for today.

And as Alabama is squeezed between Edouard and the main storm track along the northern tier of the US, I see the hot weather continuing today and tomorrow. By Thursday a weak front will be approaching which should improve our chances for rain. I think with the front in the area late Thursday and Friday should give us the best chances for rain.

Plus the clouds and showers will contribute to a good drop in temperatures with highs in the upper 80s. Now not everyone will get rain since it will come in the form of showers. But I think temperatures lower by about 5 to 7 degrees will feel good.

Our outlook beyond a week is for a continuation of the storm track north of us but the trough continuing across the eastern half of the US keeps us out of excessive heat. Plus nearly two weeks out the GFS was painting a vigorous trough moving across the eastern US which could bring excellent rain chances for us. But that is voodoo country. However, experience says that we sometimes get a good cold front in middle or late August that gives us a peek at the Fall. We’ll see.

Tropics are quite as Edouard fades off into West Texas.

I’ll have another Weather Xtreme Video posted around 7:30 or so tomorrow morning. Have a great Tuesday. God bless.
