An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

MID 90s CONTINUE: Our weather won’t change much through mid-week with the upper ridge overhead. Lots of sun; highs in the mid 90s, and the chance of isolated storms during the afternoon and evening hours. We don’t expect too many storms out there, but where they do form, they will pack a punch. One lone storm formed last night near the Alabama/Georgia border, and moved westward, downing trees and power lines in places like Delta, Barfield, and the city of Talladega. It fizzled out in Shelby County near Harpersville about 10:00. You could see the lightning for miles, and the top of that storm was illuminated nicely by the setting sun (scroll down for images).

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The heat ridge will be slightly weaker, so we might see a little increase in the number of afternoon showers and storms, but the overall weather won’t change much this weekend. Highs between 92 and 95 with partly sunny days and the risk of an afternoon storm in spots. This pattern holds into early next week.

TROPICS HEATING UP: The tropical wave (93L) in the Caribbean has some risk of becoming a tropical depression during the next few days as it moves to the west/northwest. Interesting to note the GFDL ramps this up to a category two hurricane in the central Gulf of Mexico in about 4 to 5 days… see the Weather Xtreme video for more details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record this week’s episode tonight… we will be starting a little late around 9:00 CDT, and we will stream the show live as usual, and it will be on iTunes and the web by midnight.
