…Icy road emergency developing…

(See Bill’s post below)

The main area of snow has pushed into Georgia and SE Alabama (places like MGM, AUB, and Troy may still see more steady snow).  However, the atmosphere has cooled greatly, especially just above the surface, over northern and central AL, and the instability (rapid change in temperature with height) is like a summer afternoon.  Therefore, snow showers are developing over north Alabama, and may continue into the night, and maybe early tomorrow morning.

These snowflakes are much colder (notice how they are smaller and not sticking together in big handfuls like the ones earlier), and the temperature will drop below freezing across most of AL tonight.  Travel is NOT ADVISED anywhere in Alabama tonight.  If you have to go out…please leave room between you and the car in front of you, if you see brake lights start slowing down immediately, try not to hit the brakes if you’re on ice on a bridge or something and you feel sliding, and just use common sense.  BEST ADVICE:  STAY HOME!
