Very impressive scenes over downtown Birmingham this evening as a strong storm over western sections of the city move toward downtown.

The strongest part of the storm will pass just northwest of downtown through North Birmingham toward Tarrant.

There is a very impressive collar cloud extending all the way across the horizon over downtown. This is along the leading edge of the thunderstorm’s outflow.

Storms west of these are weakening a bit over western Jefferson County.

Other strong storms are over eastern Alabama from north of Ashland to Oxford to Jacksonville.

Another strong cell is approaching Sylacauga.

Everything is moving northeast.

The strongest storms contain strong gusty winds, lots of lightning and strong winds.
