After an overactive day of weather Tuesday, it seems so strange how quiet it is as we begin a new day. Quiet as a mouse.

At 3 am, there was no booming thunder to rattle our windows or panic our little dogs, No brilliant flashes of lightning to make us jump out of our chair and seem like broad daylight for a second or two in your room.

Instead only scattered light showers were across North Central Alabama including the Greater Birmingham area. Over Northwest Alabama, the showers were a bit more numerous but still only light to moderate in intensity. All of those showers were moving steadily toward the east-northeast.

Last evening’s Tornado Watch ended at 2 am and there are no warnings in effect at this hour. It is a peaceful time, time to relax. Coffee tastes better at times like this, Sleep seems way far away. Who needs sleep?

But wait a minute. We expect more scattered showers and thunderstorms today This is because a cool front will be slowly pushing into the state. The temperature should fall into the 50s this afternoon. A few of those thunderstorms could become severe.

Down the road, more pleasant autumn weather awaits us especially from Thursday through the weekend. Some very chilly nights included with lots of sunshine in the daytime with much lower humidity. Look at these three rain amounts for the six hour period from 7 o’clock last evening through 1 o’clock this morning:

2.48 inches at Gadsden Airport
1.70 Birmingham Airport
2.20 Clay/Pinson (Womack Road)
