Over the last hour a few very strong storms have developed over northeast Alabama. Storms are currently impacting areas in Etowah, Calhoun, Cleburne and now making their way into northern St. Clair County. Storm have developed in a very moisture rich environment after daytime heating has allowed instability to increase across the state.
These storms are producing gusty winds, hail, frequent lighting and torrential rains. This activity is slowly pushing off to the west-southwest and will be impacting Interstate 59. Areas around Gadsden as well as Steele, Attalla and Alexandria are being impacted.
These storms are not currently severe, but at anytime could pulse up and reach severe limits, with a significant hail threat. There many more strong storms over Georgia and the Carolinas this afternoon too.
