Or, it is going to be a dark and stormy night…
We have been tracking a “stacked” set of low pressure centers to our west that came ashore last weekend. They have been spinning away like giant moisture pumps all week.
Now, they have separated. The upper low has moved east northeast into southern Mississippi. The surface low is hanging back near Vicksburg.
Look for continued thunderstorm development over East Central Mississippi and West Central Alabama over the next few hours, spreading northeastward into Central Alabama through the evening.
There will be a lot of very heavy rain overnight. So pay close attention to warnings and the radar. If you get in a heavy rainband and rain persists for 30 minutes to an hour or more, you will have flooding problems, especially if have had rain in the past couple of days. Areas that got several inches of rain last night will flood easily.
A flash flood watch is in effect for Central and Northwest Alabama.
So…remember the major the safety rule…turn around, don’t drown…do not walk or drive into standing or flowing water.
