So… do you like the version by Linda Ronstadt, or Martha Reeves and the Vandellas better?
“Whenever I’m with him
Something inside
Starts to burning
And Im filled with desire,
Could it be the devil in me?
Or is this the way loves supposed to be?
Its like a heat wave
Its burning in my heart
I cant keep form burning
Its tearing me apart”
STRONG STORMS OVER WEST ALABAMA: Slow moving, very strong storms continue over West Alabama this afternoon, generally west of a line from Fayette to Tuscaloosa to Brent and Montgomery. These storms feature very dangerous cloud to ground lightning, enough rain for localized flooding problems, and also the potential for some small hail and damaging straight line winds. Elsewhere, the heat is the story.
At 3:00, Birmingham reported 93 degrees, with a dewpoint of 70, and a heat index of 99. The hottest place in the state at this hour is Eufaula, with 98 degrees.
WAY UP NORTH: Check out the Weather Xtreme video and see that nasty MCS/Derecho headed for Chicago. If you have friends up there, tell them to batten down the hatches.
THE WEEKEND: We are projecting highs in the 94 to 97 degree range tomorrow and Sunday. There will be a few afternoon thunderstorms around both days, but they will be rather isolated. The heat index will be over 100 at times, so you know the routine. Use common sense and don’t overheat.
NEXT WEEK: No real change as the upper ridge persists. Highs mostly in the mid 90s, with a few isolated afternoon showers and storms on a daily basis. No doubt there could be a day or two with a higher coverage of showers and storms, but there is simply no way of identifying those days now. Good ole Alabama heat and humidity will be the big deal next week.
TROPICS: Our tropical wave near the Leeward Islands will have a very hard time surviving 50 knot shear ahead of the system in coming days, and interaction with Hispaniola. The GFS continues the idea of a broad tropical low moving through the western GOM late next week; see the Weather Xtreme video for details.
WEEKEND AT THE BEACH: Cannot get by any one day without at least some showers and thunderstorms. The better chance will be Saturday and only scattered ones into the middle of next week. High temperatures will be consistently in the low to mid 90s inland, but on the immediate coast the high will be closer to 90.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
