In the heat of the afternoon, thunderstorms were increasing in East and South Alabama. At 2:45 p.m., the main ones were lined up from Eastern Tallapoosa County and Chambers County southwestward to near Montgomery and all the way down into Crenshaw and Covington Counties in the extreme south.
However, other storms were forming over Central and NW Alabama in a zone from Eastern Fayette County across NE Tuscaloosa County to near Clanton.
The upper air profile suggests that storms this afternoon will be moving from NW to SE and so far it has been on target.
Some of these storms will get unfriendly again later this afternoon, with a risk of strong winds, possible hail and too much lightning. Already, there are a lot of lightning strokes dancing around over East and South Alabama.
