That big upper air low-pressure area that we have been talking about all week was getting closer to Alabama late today. It is somewhere over West Mississippi.
However, it was already spinning off a band of showers across North Alabama. Over half of the area from Birmingham north to the Tennessee border is getting rain.
It is a mix of rain and drizzle and poor visibility. Jefferson and Shelby Counties seem to be completely covered. The precipitation in this part of Alabama is moving toward the NW because of the broad circulation around that upper air low.
It is a chilly rain. Here are some late afternoon spot reports:
52 degrees, cloudy, Tuscaloosa
50, a cold rain, Birmingham, some fog in the area
49, light rain, Shelby County Airport
53, light rain, Muscle Shoals
54, light rain, Huntsville
53, light rain, Decatur
53, cloudy, Anniston
54, drizzle, Alexander City
