Not much going on around Alabama so far. There were some scattered showers, mostly over South Alabama. The strong thunderstorms were still to the west of Alabama mainly in Mississippi and Louisiana.

The Storm Prediction Center extended a Tornado Watch until 11 pm, CST for these areas:

* Most of Louisiana except the Extreme NW. This excludes the Shreveport area.
* All of Mississippi except the Gulf Coast and the extreme north.

The watch extends eastward to the Mississippi/Alabama border.

At 4:45, a line of intense thunderstorms extended from the NW tip of Alabama southwestward across Mississippi into Louisiana and SE Texas. The storms are moving east and the line of storms also shifting to the east.

NWS in Jackson has issued at least 10 tornado warnings in the last two hours. A suspected tornado was located 8 miles NW of Yazoo City moving NE at 40. Another tornado was indicated by radar near Mangham, Miss., and moving NE at 45.

At 4:15 a tornado was reported on the ground two miles SSE of Louise, Miss., in Humphreys County by a storm chaser. It was in an open field near highway 3.

So far, we have not seen major structural damage reports but those could be delayed.

ALABAMA TONIGHT
Strong storms will be moving into Nw Alabama soon. Then all this mass of showers and storms will advance eastward across the state as the night wears on. Some of the storms may become severe and rain will be locally very heavy. In the next 24 hours, parts of Alabama could easily get over three inches. So don’t be surprised to see some Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Flash Flood Warnings during the night. A Tornado Warning is not out of the question. Strong south winds will also be a problem, especially as the night wears on. Gusts may exceed 40 or even 50 mph especially on the ridges. This could bring down some trees even with no thunderstorms around.

This will be one of those “no-sleep” nights. We will be here all night and look for updates throughout the night.
