One person I have known for a long, long time would call this “nasty” weather.
It is a miserable looking day by any measure.
Where I live in NE Trussville, the killer fog is closing in on me again. The fog bank seems to be almost down to the ground. If I were to take my favorite drive across nearby Deerfoot Parkway now, I am sure the visibility would be nil because much of that highway would be in the clouds.
Meanwhile, we have to look at other things besides low clouds and fog. The NWS continues a Flash Flood Warning for Barbour, Bullock, Lee, Macon, Montgomery, Pike and Russell Counties until 7:15 this evening.
Earlier this afternoon, the Lee County EMA Office reported very heavy rain of about 1.50 inches. There was 4-6 inches of standing on a few roads in and around Auburn and Opelika.
The NWS also continues a Flash Flood Watch until at least 6:00 p.m. for these counties:
Autauga
Barbour
Bullock
Chambers
Dallas
Elmore
Lee
Lowndes
Macon
Montgomery
Pike
Russell
Tallapoosa
At 4:20 p.m., quite a few showers and thunderstorms continued over the south with a good amount of lightning. The heaviest rain was over South/Central Alabama, mostly south and SW of Montgomery. Have noticed also that the showers and storms are moving more toward the east now than they were earlier which was toward the NE.
We will have updates as needed for the remainder of this afternoon and tonight. Plenty of coffee available, but no moon pies or Pop Tarts.
