A Significant Weather Alert has been issued for Jefferson and Shelby Counties until 5:45 p.m. This is an extension in time of an earlier alert.

Shortly after 5:00, a cluster of showers and storms over Southern Jefferson County and also near Alabaster were moving slowly toward the east. Because of the slow movement, they have time to dump a lot of rain.

Winds up to 30 mph and frequent lightning can be expected with the heavy downpours.

These storms, between now and 5:45, should affect mainly these locations:
Raimund
Ross Bridge
Hoover
Indian Springs Village
Oak Mountain State Park
Meadowbrook
