Showers continue late this morning over various parts of the state, most of them were over the south two-thirds of Alabama. This included a few moderate to heavy showers in West-Central Alabama across Hale and Bibb Counties, between Greensboro, Havana Junction and the Brent-Centreville area. Moderate showers also near Talladega.
The heaviest rain remains off shore over the North Gulf of Mexico. Off to our NW, a line of showers was trying to develop ahead of a cold front, which now extends from West Kentucky down to just west of Memphis and then to NW Louisiana. There is a low pressure area along that cold front.
In the cooler air, temperatures have dropped to 46 at Paducah and 48 across SE Missouri.
Here in Alabama, temperatures area about 10 to 12 degrees lower than at this same time yesterday. This is due to the thicker clouds and showers and not the cooler air. The nearest lightning is off in the North Gulf of Mexico, especially about 200 miles south of New Orleans, Gulfport and Mobile.
The upper air low pressure system that parked itself over West Texas for several days has opened up and is now moving eastward. It shows up more as a low pressure trough from near Memphis to New Orleans. After this feature moves east, it will permit cooler air to spill into Alabama and by daybreak tomorrow we should have some upper 40s.
