Precipitation was almost non-existent across Alabama late tonight. The light rain mixed with light sleet moved east rapidly and mostly over into Georgia.

There will still be a few spots of light rain mixed with sleet the remainder of tonight. A small area was over West Central Alabama, Fayette and Lamar County late tonight.

Temperatures were holding steady–mostly 40 or higher. They will lower a few more degrees before daybreak. Could be some lower 30s over the eastern counties by daybreak due to the wedge effect. (colder air spreading westward from the Carolinas and Georgia)

The threat of icing seems very low for the rest of tonight except possibly a few areas near the Georgia border. Off to our west, there is little or no precipitation late tonight across Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

OTHER AREAS

* Winter Storm Warning for Thursday for the Western Carolinas and Extreme NE Georgia. Colder air spreading in from the east plus a low pressure area developing offshore. The NWS in Greenville, S.C., advises that there could be enough freezing rain to bring down some tree limbs. This warning includes Spartanburg and Charlotte and a number of other communities.

PLEASE, PLEASE…NOT AGAIN
Another Winter Storm Watch for West Texas and Oklahoma, The NWS in Oklahoma City says that a new area of snow will develop in West Texas Friday and spread into Oklahoma by Friday night and lasting till early Sunday. Only good thing about this is that it should be mostly snow and not another freezing rain event. Too early to be specific, but the NWS is thinking widespread 4 inch snowfall amounts with some totals up to 8 inches. This, of course, will hinder recovery efforts from the earlier devastating ice storm in the area,

PLEASE NOTE: We will let this be out last update for tonight since very little precipitation is left. However, we will still be available at any time if conditions change. Look for a lot more weather information early tomorrow.

Thanks for the excellent reports from the 3340 Skywatchers earlier tonight. Very useful.

Time for a power nap…
