The Strom Prediction Center has issued the Day One Outlook for today and it follows yesterday’s Day 2 very closely. A moderate risk over northeastern Louisiana, southeastern Arkansas and western Mississippi.
We are under a slight risk outlook.
The forecasters at SPC look for a significant tornado threat across the moderate risk area.
The question is how long that the activity will stay as discrete supercell storms. If it congeals into a big squall line later in the afternoon or evening, the threat will shift from tornadoes to damaging winds with the line.
If the individual storms can stay discrete, we may deal with a significant tornado threat into western Alabama.
The vening model runs did concern us more, with a good deal more instability coming in late tomorrow night and a strong indication of the possibility of tornadoes.
This is a developing weather situation and all Alabamians will want to pay close attention to the latest weather information tomorrow and be prepared to take action Saturday night when the severe weather materializes. The greatest threat in Alabama appears to be from 9 p.m. tomorrow night through 6 a.m. on Sunday.
Please note that there is a lake wind advisory in effect for today. It will probably be with us through much of Sunday. Boaters should exercise extreme caution on area lakes for southeast winds at 15-30 mph today. This will affect the Bassmasters Classic competition here today.
