An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

We actually have some rain not too far away; a disturbance aloft continues to bring rain to parts of Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi this morning, and you have to figure a few isolated showers could fire this afternoon near the Mississippi border. But, generally speaking, today will be another very warm and dry day for much of Alabama, with smoke and haze, and a high in the mid to upper 80s. A code orange air quality alert continues for the Birmingham metro area today.

Not much change through the mid-week period; highs in the mid to upper 80s with hazy days and fair nights. Any afternoon showers will be very isolated, and mostly over the far western side of the state.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Model madness continues. The 00Z GFS has pushed the best chance of showers and storms back to Sunday and Monday as it continues to struggle; Friday and Saturday are looking pretty dry. We won’t change the forecast over on the seven day page until we see the 12Z run a little later this morning. Needless to say, confidence in a specific solution looks pretty small right now.

LONG TERM: Still no sign of any major wetdown over the rest of the medium range period (through June 13). The southern Gulf continues to look unsettled, but organized tropical system shows up on the global models at this time.

HEADED TO THE BEACH? Be sure and read “Spann’s Best Way To The Bama Beaches”, the 2007 edition. I will actually be taking that drive myself later this week.

WEATHER PARTY: We are making a major upgrade to the WeatherParty site this morning… I think you will like the new site and the new features, but you will have to sign up again. Sorry for the inconvenience… the site should be ready within the next couple of hours. This is our “web 2.0” weather news site that makes you the editor.

WEATHER BRAINS: We recorded a new WeatherBrains netcast last night… it is now available on the web site, and on iTunes. David Black or Kevin Selle will post the show notes here shortly.

I will have the next Weather Xtreme video posted by 3:30 this afternoon!
