An impulse rotating around the large upper trough over the eastern US tonight is setting off some light snow in middle and eastern Tennessee and into extreme NE Alabama tonight. The snow may not be reaching the ground in many locations, as the UAH lidar ceilometer (pointed vertically) shows most of the snow evaporating around 1,500 ft.
A few of the higher mountains in NE Alabama may see a light dusting of snow tonight, but the significant accumulations should remain farther NE. Knoxville is expecting up to 1″, with parts of the Smoky Mountains 2-5″.
**Be sure to bundle up and let the pets in today and tonight if possible. Temperatures will stay in the 20s most of the day, with wind chills 0 to 10 at times. Lows tonight may reach 10 in some of the colder valleys.**
