RIGHT NOW: Sure feels good this morning; coolest place I can find is the Cullman Airport, where the temperature has dropped to 56 degrees. Temperatures along the I-20 corridor are mostly in the low to mid 60s with a clear sky.

HOLIDAY WEEKEND: We still figure today will be generally dry, although a rogue shower could pop up somewhere on radar during the afternoon and evening hours. The high will be mostly in the mid 80s, and humidity values will remain rather low. The 00Z models are trending toward more moisture tomorrow, and we will probably need to insert some risk of at least an afternoon shower, but widespread rain isn’t expected. The high tomorrow will be in the low to mid 80s. A few scattered showers are possible Sunday afternoon as well.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: We are forecasting another great night for high school football tonight; the sky will be clear, with kickoff temperatures in the upper 70s, dropping into the low 70s by the fourth quarter. For the Auburn/Louisiana Tech game tomorrow evening (6:00 kickoff) at Jordan-Hare Stadium, the sky will be mostly partly cloudy, and looks like we now need to mention a small risk of a shower during the game. The kickoff temperature will be near 80 degrees, falling into the mid 70s by the fourth quarter. We will promise no rain for the Alabama/Virginia Tech game tomorrow night in Atlanta (8:00 kickoff on ABC 33/40) because the game is indoors (the Georgia Dome), but the weather outside will be clear with temperatures in the 70s. And, in Birmingham, UAB will host Rice in the home opener at 3:00 tomorrow at Legion Field. The sky will be partly sunny with an outside risk of a shower during the game. The kickoff temperature will be near 84 degrees, falling to near 80 by the end of the game.

NEXT WEEK: The first half of the week looks a little unsettled, with mostly cloudy days along with a good chance of showers Monday and Tuesday. Rain probably won’t be too heavy, but just be aware that a few periods of rain are likely, with highs around 80. The GFS is trending a little drier over the latter half of next week.

TROPICS: NHC has Erika as a remnant low in the Caribbean, but most models bring it back to life, some ramping the system up to hurricane strength by Labor Day. The models are moving Erika northward, well east of the U.S. coast, and this system won’t impact our weather in any way. The rest of the Atlantic basin is rather quiet; a wave in the far eastern Atlantic shows no sign of organization.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
