At 2:45 this afternoon, most of the showers and storms that were still in Alabama were over the east-central part.
NWS/Birmingham issued a Significant Weather Alert for Tallapoosa and Chambers Counties until 3:15. Some of the stronger storms may produce gusty winds 35 to 45 mph and possible hail up to 1/2 inch in diameter. They were moving east.
And don’t forget the lightning–my most feared weather element. Lightning is frightening.
There were no storms in progress from Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Sylacauga northward.
With warmer air aloft tomorrow, we don’t expect to see this many storms.
Actually, the storms were scattered enough that I would estimate only one-third of the land area of East-Central and South Alabama received rain.
Remember, a Significant Weather Alert is short of an actual warning, but it does mean possible strong thunderstorms.
