Most of the showers and thunderstorms in Alabama this afternoon were over the west side of the state, genereally west of I-65. Even though the scattered storms continue, not everyone is getting rain by a long shot.
The storms are moving very slowly. That is both good and bad. It means that not as many people will get rain before the storm rains out, but it does mean that those that get the rain will nget a bigger dose.
At 3 o’clock, a small thunderstorm was producing heavy rain over a small area near Oak Grove in West Jefferson County. Other strong ones were over the NW part of the state from Franklin County northward. The NWS/Huntsville issued a Significant Weather Alert for West Franklin County. Remember, that falls short of a warning.
The storms that formed in Chilton County earlier this afternoon dumped 1/2 inch of rain in a short time in the Collins Chapel community near Jemison and 1.06 inches at Union Grove in North Chilton just a few miles east of I-65.
SEVERE WEATHER IN NW ALABAMA
From NWS/Huntsville: At 1:29 this afternoon, multiple homes had roof damage and some with siding blown off 2 miles SW of the Elgin Community in Lauderdale County.
