WWW (Wet Weather Word)
Not a great deal going on around Alabama at mid-morning on this fresh-start Monday.
At 9 o’clock, there were showers over the Tennessee Valley mostly from Moulton to Decatur, Huntsville and Scottsboro.
A group of heavier showers, including some lightning over East Central Alabama–especially over South Tallapoosa and SW Chambers County. Heavy rain indicated.
Everything was moving slowly toward the north or NNE so those heavier showers will be in Lafayette soon.
We will need to keep showers and thunderstorms in the forecast every day this week. Wet is the main weather word of choice.
Model guidance that gives us estimated rain amounts has been flop-flipping recently. Nevertheless, we believe that much of Alabama will get several inches of rain during the next several days. This will help our surplus.
As of today, the Birmingham surplus for 2009 stands at 5.60 inches. That is a full month’s average supply for most of our wetter months. Lake Purdy, the main Metro BHM water source is at full pool as of yesterday. (Should we rename it Lake Pretty?.
Two sample rain amounts in the last 24 hours, and may not be the heaviest:
0.83 at Decatur
0.75 Montgomery/Dannelly Field
