J.B. Elliott is taking a couple of days off to celebrate the 50th anniversary of being married to his lovely wife, Judy. These days, that is a remarkable accomplishment. Congratulations to J.B. and Judy!

RADAR WATCH: Showers are forming in the moist, unstable air over Alabama late this morning. Most of them are in a band from near Brent to Alex City to Phenix City. They are moving very slowly to the east/northeast, and I sure get the idea we will see some big rain totals today from the slow moving storms that ultimately form. Watch for localized flooding issues.

Surface based CAPE values are already over 2,000 j/kg just to the southwest…

These values will only get higher as the day wears on. We also note drier air in the mid levels on the morning soundings; that means we might have a few wet microbursts today; those are local areas of damaging wind. We will be watching. I will have a full discussion and the afternoon Weather Xtreme video here by 3:00, and updates sooner on the Alabama thunderstorm situation.
