The weekend continues to feature gorgeous weather as we remain mild ahead of the next system which will present some clouds for us today and Monday. The surface high centered off the east coast of Florida will keep a frontal system to our northwest until the short wave in the upper flow arrives Monday evening and early Tuesday.

The upper short wave will amplify on Monday and breakdown the upper ridge as it moves eastward. Look for mostly cloudy skies on Monday with rain chances improving during the afternoon and evening hours from the northwest. Most of the rain should occur between Monday evening and Tuesday morning with most areas receiving between a half and one inch. I do not believe the rain will be heavy enough to significantly aggravate the flooding issue we had just a few days ago. Thunderstorms are possible as CAPE values reach between 500 and 1000 J/kg. At this time the instability does not appear to be strong enough to produce severe weather, but it bears watching since conditions will be marginal.

The rain moves eastward during the daylight hours on Tuesday with much of Central Alabama out of the showers and rain by midday. Clouds are likely to stick with us so don’t look for much sun Tuesday afternoon.

Sunshine returns on Wednesday along with a surface high centered over the Northeast Gulf of Mexico. That together with a strengthening upper ridge will keep us dry through next weekend with highs climbing into the 70s. Looks like wonderful weather on the Gulf Coast, too, with highs in the mid to upper 70s with plenty of sun – lather up with the sunscreen so you don’t get burned!

Looks like week two will be quiet at the beginning with another round of weather weather possible around the 27th or so.

Don’t forget to listen to our weekly netcast anytime on the web or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

So what were you doing 18 years ago when the Blizzard of ’93 was occurring? What an event that was! And remember, Daylight Savings Time began at 2 am when we were supposed to set our clocks ahead one hour! So don’t be late and check those clocks! Hope James Spann set his ahead – if he didn’t, he might be late with the next edition of the Weather Xtreme Video tomorrow morning. Enjoy the day and Godspeed.
