THIS MORNING: The coldest temperature I have seen so far this morning is 34 degrees, which comes from DL Powell, our Skywatcher up in the community of Broomtown, which is in Cherokee County northeast of Centre. Donny Fowler from Fayette and Vic Bell from Scrougeout (northeast of Gadsden) report 35 degrees. Cullman and Haleyville are at 38. Just remember tomorrow morning will be a few degrees colder, and some of the coldest spots might flirt with freezing for a brief time, and frost is a possibility for the valleys. Nothing really widespread, however.
GLORIOUS WEEKEND: Weather like this makes our job pretty simple. Sunny mild days and clear cool nights will continue through the weekend as a large mass of dry air covers Alabama. The high today will be close to 70, followed by mid 70s tomorrow and Sunday. Perfect weather for those Indy car races at the Barber Motorsports Park this weekend. But, do remember the pollen will be back.
LONG DRY SPELL: Still no evidence of rain all next week as an upper ridge takes over. Highs will be in the upper 70s early in the week, followed by low 80s Wednesday through Friday under that ridge. And, out there in the land of voodoo, the GFS doesn’t show any serious severe weather setups through the rest of the month, and just a few chances for rain, nothing especially heavy. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
