The big thunderstorms in the greater Birmingham area caused an outflow boundary to move southwestward into Tuscaloosa, Northern Bibb and Chilton Counties. This has triggered some new thunderstorms that are dumping heavy rain from the west tip of Jefferson County through extreme NE Tuscaloosa County into SE Fayette County. Those storms are moving SE.
* Another lone thunderstorm, a strong one, was over NE Shelby County in the general vicinity of Sterrett and Vincent. It was moving almost due south.
* At about 6:00 p.m. five miles ESE of Vestavia Hills in Shelby County, an NWS employee reported marble-size hail (1/2 inch in diameter) on Shetland Trace.
* Six miles ENE of Hoover, an NWS employee reported heavy rain at 6:35 p.m. The heavy rain led to an estimated 1.5 feet of water covering the roadway near the Spain Park Sports Complex.
* At 6:24 p.m. six miles SSE of Mountain Brook, broadcast media reported thunderstorm wind damage. Large trees and power lines were down at the Inverness Landing Apartment complex off Valleydale Road.
* Not sure of the time, but a concrete light pole was reported to have blown over onto vehicles in the Kohl’s parking lot in Inverness. There were no injuries, but the Fire & Rescue Unit are on the scene.
* NWS/Birmingham has just issued a Significant Weather Advisory for Western Talladega County and NE Shelby County until 8:15. That is because of that large, but single, thunderstorm described above over NE Shelby County.
* Still some locally heavy showers and storms from near Jasper northwestward into Marion County.
* The ABC 33/40 weather watcher in Haleyville reported 2.23 inches of rain.
