The National Weather Service has upgraded the risk of severe weather in part of Texas for this afternoon and tonight.
A Moderate Risk (which means an enhanced risk) is now posted from SW Texas into North Texas. The most dangerous area is from SW Texas NE into North-Central Texas near and west of Dallas-Ft. Worth and into the extreme south-central part of Oklahoma. Tornado watches already cover a good part of that area.
Flash Flooding is also a problem in parts of Central Texas with some roads closed. As much as 7 inches of rain fell in some areas south of Dallas overnight and this morning.
While we are on the subject, a slight risk is in effect for Saturday and Saturday night for a big area. It includes East Texas eastward to include all of Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas as well as extreme West Tennessee and northward to include all of Missouri and much of Iowa and Illinois.
What does all of this mean for Alabama? It looks like the best chance of thunderstorms for our area will be Saturday night and extending into Sunday. We cannot rule out the possibility of some strong thunderstorms, although it appears that the main energy may shift north of our area.
