Looks like moisture gets pretty close, but our strong upper ridge and surface high continue to hold keeping things hot and sticky for much of the next 5 days.

Our afternoon temperatures trend up during the next couple of days with low 90s today and mid 90s tomorrow and Thursday. The NAM and GFS MOS go for 98 degrees for Birmingham on Thursday. That seems a little too hot considering our soil moisture and thickness values. I can’t rule out the chance of a rogue shower somewhere during the peak of the daytime heating process, but most communities will be dry.

The next decent chance of showers and storms will come on Saturday as the weekend arrives. The day won’t be a wash-out, but one or two passing showers and storms are a decent possibility with the approach of a surface front. The 06Z GFS hangs the front up in the Tennessee Valley Saturday which would mean a continued risk of scattered showers and storms Sunday and Monday. The heat will back off a bit with more clouds as highs drop back into the upper 80s.

The tropical low that was producing tropical storm force wind gusts on the Louisiana coast yesterday has moved inland, so it won’t be getting a name. A tropical wave continues over the Northwest Caribbean; this will move across the northern tip of the Yucatan peninsula, then move into the Southwest Gulf. Most computer guidance brings this into the Northwest Gulf and lower Texas coast in 72 hours as a tropical storm.

Peeking into voodoo country, there is simply not much change as the ridge maintains a strangle hold on the eastern half of the country.
