It is getting that time of year when the weather becomes more active again after a long hot summer. When autumn gets here, fronts have more vigor and they generally move quicker. In the SE states, it is also a signal that our secondary severe weather season will soon be with us. The most active time for that is in November and early December, but that can vary from year to year.

Today is expected to be quite active in areas to the NW of Alabama with the risk of some severe thunderstorms over NE Texas, SE Oklahoma, Western Missouri and West and Central Arkansas. Late last night, we counted at least 32 severe thunderstorm or flash flood warnings affecting an area from Ft. Worth/Dallas northward all the way to Nebraska. This included a number of flash flood warnings and that is exactly what the Plains states do not need at the moment. We did not see any tornado warnings in that grouping. There could be a few of those today.

We certainly are not looking forward to our secondary severe weather season, except for the possibility of it bringing some beneficial rain. We wish we could get the rain without any risk of severe thunderstorms, but that will be difficult to do.

Outdoors quite a bit on Sunday. I noticed the countryside looks as dry as can be. In our community, it has never looked this dry in our five years of living in the Trussville area.
