The ABC 3340 Weather Team is continuing to monitor the severe weather potential for Central Alabama this morning. Already, a couple of discrete thunderstorms had developed in Southeast Alabama. One which showed some signs of rotation was in Bullock County but has now moved to Lee County. A second thunderstorm cluster was located southwest of Montgomery in Butler County.

Since the Weather Xtreme Video, dew points have climbed to 65 at Tuscaloosa and 64 at my house in Helena. The morning sounding from the Shelby County Airport has tremendous helicity in the lowest elevations, but the atmosphere is also very moist up to 14,000 feet. There is also a distinct lack of a strong lapse rate aloft. But as we saw last Friday, even marginal situations need to be monitored so we can be ready for any development.

We’ll continue to watch all of the data available to us and update you as needed.
