Flash Flood Warnings continue for Fayette and Lamar Counties in West Alabama until 5:30 and also a Flash Flood Warning for Central Blount County.
NWS/Birmingham also just issued a Flood Advisory for Walker and Tuscaloosa Counties in West Alabama until 7:15. This is short of an actual Flash Flood Warning, but it does mean there could be some flooding, especially on streets and small streams. This Advisory includes places like Jasper, Cordova, Carbon Hill, Tuscaloosa, Northport and Holt. Additional rain up to 2 inches is possible in these areas.
The latest position report on that line of strong storms places them from near the city of Cullman to Jasper into West Tuscaloosa County and to near Aliceville in Pickens County.
Alan West in Hamilton reported 1.53 inches of rain in only 1 hour. This line of storms, on the current rate of movement, should reach the Birmingham metro area before the afternoon rush hour is over say between 5:00 and 6:00 this evening.
We should also report that so far today there has not been a formal severe thunderstorm warning–instead, Flash Flood Warnings.
