One of the strongest thunderstorms in Alabama at 4:00 p.m. was entering the NE corner of Jefferson County and headed in the general direction of Trussville. NWS/Birmingham has issued a Significant Weather Alert for Jefferson and Blount County until 4:30. The thunderstorm was near Palmerdale and moving south at 20 mph. The main concern is frequent cloudy-to-ground lightning, strong gusty winds of 35-45 mph and hail possibly up to 1/2 inch in diameter.

There were other strong thunderstorms over NW Alabama and the Weather Service has issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for minor flooding of poor drainage areas in Marion County, including the City of Hamilton. It is in effect until 7:00 p.m. Radar indicates 1.50 to 2.00 inches of rain has already fallen in that area.

There were also strong thunderstorms over Eastern Winston County near Arley and over NW Fayette County. Everything was moving almost due south or toward the SE.

I can hear frequent thunder at my place in NE Trussville and unless this storm changes direction slightly, we should get a good quick soaking.
