TODAY: Some dense fog has formed in scattered pockets across our state early this morning, otherwise the weather is calm with a blanket of warm, moist air covering the state. Today will be very similar to yesterday; scattered showers and storms will form during the heat of the day. Most of the showers and storms will come from 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m., and some spots will see heavy amounts of rain, while other places get little at all. We note out Skywatcher Vic Bell in Etowah County reported 2.17″ of rain yesterday; much of that fell in only 30 minutes. That is the nature of these tropical downpours.
TOMORROW AND FRIDAY: The weather really won’t change much on these two days; occasional sunshine with scattered showers and storms, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s.
THE WEEKEND: No doubt there will be a few showers and storms around during the afternoon hours Saturday and Sunday, but they should begin to decrease in number as heights begin to rise as an upper high to the west tries to nose in here. Otherwise, expect partly sunny days with highs not too far from 90; the good soil moisture should prevent the heat from getting out of hand.
NEXT WEEK: Very routine early summer weather looks likely next week. An upper ridge will be centered to the west of the state, so the hottest weather should be found over states like Texas. But, we still expect highs in the low 90s, with widely scattered, mostly afternoon and evening storms around on a daily basis.
AT THE BEACH: About 4 to 6 hours of sunshine is expected through tomorrow, with scattered showers and storm around both days. By Saturday and Sunday, the 7 to 9 hours of sun are likely with showers and storms becoming more widely scattered. Highs will be remain mostly in the mid 80s along the immediate coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores. The sea water temperature at Pensacola Beach last night was a warm 83 degrees. And, ABC 33/40 News reported oil was nearing Dauphin Island and Mobile Bay; this of course is coming from the leaking BP drilling facility off the Louisiana Coast.
TROPICS: The Atlantic basin is quiet, and tropical storm development is not expected through the rest of the week.
