But not us. We are soaking the post-midnight coffee and babysitting thunderstorms.
Except there are very few to watch in Alabama.
Before midnight, we were semi-certain that aSevere Thunderstorm Watch would be extended south into North Alabama. It did not happen.
A powerful thunderstorm complex complete with bow echo was sweeping SE from West and Middle Tennessee. The part that would have moved into Alabama weakened. The west part of the bow began moving south toward North Mississippi so a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is still valid for Extreme North Mississippi and part of West Tennessee. The storms were dumping very heavy rain at 1:30 this morning from West Tennessee into NE Arkansas. The storms are overdosed with lightning.
A number of Severe Thunderstorm Warning current from NWS Memphis and Little Rock but not in the last several hours from Nashville.
We can blame most of this on that powerful complex of storms that moved eastward yesterday and turned more toward the SE last evening. Historic flooding in Louisville.
In their updated discussion, the NWS/Storm Prediction Center has now posted a slight risk of severe weather for today (Wednesday) for these areas:
….Most of Alabama from about Birmingham southward
….East Louisiana
….Most of Mississippi
….Georgia except extreme north and extreme south
….Good part of both North and South Carolina.
