Drier flow will help to keep us dry and warm – verging on hot – for the next two days, but moisture is expected to increase slowly with some isolated showers possible by Sunday and into next week. A weak disturbance in the upper atmosphere will rotate around the ridge that is building into the Southeast US, but it will only increase shower chances to our south and west for the next couple of days before it weakens.

With the ridge building in aloft together with the moisture increase, we continue to be setting up for isolated to scattered showers for much of the upcoming week. The ridge remains with us but gets dampened somewhat on Tuesday and Wednesday by a strong short wave moving across the northern tier of the US. This should result in some of our hotter days through about Tuesday until the strong ridge edges west and dampens.

But the ridge is not through with us. As the traveling westerlies move the short wave trough into the Atlantic by Thursday, the ridge builds back into our area. However, since the atmosphere will be fairly moist, the scattered showers should persist into next weekend. Fortunately, the ridge should not build back into the area quite as strong as this weekend and the early part of the week.

Tropic remain quiet while the main risk of severe weather is focused in the North Central US ahead of a strong upper low coming out of the northern Rockies.

Quickly peeking into voodoo country, the ridge remains the dominating feature for the eastern half of the country.

TGIF. I hope that you have a good weekend as we close out another week of summer. Unfortunately the warm and muggy southern weather seems destined to track me down in Chicago, but I’m probably better able to cope with it than the folks who live here. The last couple of days of coolish weather have felt great. Enjoy the day and Godspeed.
