It’s Leah again and I’m back here in the Weather Center at the ABC 33/40 studio. There’s not a whole lot going on for the state of Alabama today; the radar seems pretty clear. On days like today there’s not much for me to do except try to master the graphics system. However, on this bland, dry day I took a big step in the weather world. I attempted to get in front of the green screen also know as the weather wall for the first time. It was very exciting, yet intimidating. I had no idea what to talk about, so on round one I just practiced with the clicker. Once everybody made their way out of the newsroom…I picked up the clicker. I took a shot at the wall again, and mumbled to myself the ways I would forecast the weather. Suddenly, I was caught and became embarrassed. That was the ice breaker, so with LOTS more practice maybe someone can actually understand what I’m talking about. After mumbling for a few minutes I realized how hard it must be for meteorologists to find things to talk about on summer days that are the same. Even though it’s only 2-4 minutes of airtime in front of thousands of viewers it must seem like forever. I definitely have a long way to go but with practice I will get there.
