…..The Birmingham NWS Office issued a Special Weather Statement (this is also called a Significant Weather Alert) for Blount, Jefferson and St. Clair Counties until 8:15. This was based on a strong thunderstorm located 10 miles west of Springville moving east at 10 mph. Activity with this big storm will also build southward as the storm moves east. Hail the size of dimes, winds up to 40 and very heavy rain with this. It will also eventually affect Village Springs, Clear Springs, Clay and Springville.
RADAR DESCRIPTION
The radar looks like a Christmas tree in places tonight. The thunderstorms just keep forming. At 7:50 p.m., there was a long irregular line of thunderstorms (not a solid line) from Marion County in NW Alabama eastward through South Winston County and the south portions of Cullman and Blount Counties to near Anniston in East Alabama. The strongest part of the Blount County activitiy is right along the Jefferson County line and radar animation shows that it is beginning to build southward into NE Jefferson County. It was literally pouring rain from near Hamilton eastward across South Winston County and SW Cullman County. Over in East Alabama, the extremely heavy rain that was over Clay County, has now spread eastward into the Randolph and South Cleburne Counties. One bit of good news: the lightning return seems to have diminished somewhat in the last 30 minutes.
