Lots of rambunctious thunderstorms across a wide area of Central and part of South Alabama today. But, it is the time of day when those storms get tired and want to sit down and rest.

They were winding down at nightfall. Lightning return is much lower. The main ones at 8 pm were mostly south of the Demopolis-Montgomery line. There we no current warnings.

SPECIAL REPORT FROM CUBA
I am speaking of Cuba, Ala., a very small town in SW Sumter County about as close to the Mississippi border as you can get. It is about half way between Livingston and Meridian. It is the hometown of the legendary sports editor of the Birmingham News–the late Af Van Hoose. We get excellent weather data from there thanks to Chief C.R. Vaughan, Chief of the Cuba Fire department and Rescue. Big slow moving thunderstorms moved across that part of West Central Alabama this afternoon. Just look at these two rain amounts:

3.78 in Cuba
3.11 at Demopolis (Skycam)

Meanwhile, another one of our Skywatchers is sitting up there in NE Etowah County waiting and waiting for rain. Vic Bell has measured only 0.34 at Scrougeout in all of June.

While we are at it, here are some more rain reports:

0.65 Huntsville
0.79 Helena (from Danny Hill)
1.27 UAH/Huntsville
1.18 Mobile/Brookley Field
0.04 Birmingham Airport
0.97 Clanton Skycam
