CALM, DRY OCTOBER WEATHER: The weather map over the U.S. is actually pretty busy, with a deep upper trough over the western states, and a nor’easter over the Outer Banks of North Carolina, but we will be in-between those systems, and our dry weather will continue through the weekend.
Today will be much like yesterday, with a mix of sun and clouds along with a high in the 77-80 degree range for most communities.
Then, for tomorrow and the weekend, we will forecast mostly sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights, with highs between 79 and 82, and early morning lows generally in the mid to upper 50s.
NEXT WEEK: We stay dry Monday and Tuesday, but we will introduce a chance of showers Wednesday as a cold front approaches from the northwest. We have some model disagreement on how the front behaves; the GFS pushes it through Wednesday night, followed by chilly air Thursday and Friday with potential for lows in the 40s by Thursday morning. But, the ECMWF on the other hand hangs the front up around here, with a continued risk of showers on through at least Thursday. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: No rain problems for high school football again this week; a clear sky tonight and tomorrow night with temperatures falling through the 60s during the games.
Auburn hosts Western Carolina Saturday at 1:00; the sky will be mostly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 80 degrees; low 80s are possible by halftime. Alabama is on the road; they will visit the Kentucky Wildcats Saturday evening (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear. About 68 degrees at kickoff; 50s are likely by the final whistle.
GULF COAST WEATHER: Perfect weather through Sunday with sunny warm days and fair cool nights from Panama City to Gulf Shores. Highs in the low 80s; lows in the 60s. Should be hard to find a decent cloud in the sky this weekend during the National Shrimp Festival at Gulf Shores. Sea water temperatures remain in the 78-81 degree range.
TROPICS: The only feature of interest is the wave in the East Atlantic; if by chance anything develops there it will turn northward over the open Atlantic, and seems to be no threat to land.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
